Associate/Full Professor, Endowed Professorship in Mathematics Education, Department of Mathematics and Statistics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the California State University, Long Beach, invites applications for an Endowed Professorship position in Mathematics Education at the Associate or Full Professor rank. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education (or the equivalent) with the equivalent of a master's degree in mathematics, or a doctorate in Mathematics with scholarly work and significant experience in mathematics education. Additional minimum qualificatiosn include: familiarity with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics; demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly and creative activities, and teaching mathematics education; publication record commensurate with rank of Associate or Full Professor; ability and willingness to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate mathematics education courses; demonstrated involvement with K-16 mathematics education, including professional development; and, demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population.

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of technology and its roles in mathematics education at the K-16 levels, experience mentoring students with mathematics education research, experience in obtaining external funding for mathematics education related projects, leadership activity in professional organizations related to mathematics and/or teacher education (e.g., AERA, NCTM), and/or a history of productive partnerships with school districts and across-university disciplinary groups (e.g., science education, applied mathematics, education).

Duties will include maintaining a mathematics education research program, supporting K-16 professional development, securing grants in support of such scholarship and service, and involving students in research and/or professional development opportunities. Furthermore, it will be required to teach courses in the Department’s undergraduate and/or graduate programs in mathematics education, assume leadership roles both within the Department and across the university, and continue membership and leadership activity in appropriate professional organizations.
