Essential Duties: Instructional and School Culture Leadership

  • Uses classroom observation and teacher work product data to hold weekly teacher coaching meetings for all team members around instructional and classroom culture topics
  • Coaches teachers around excellent pedagogical practices within the content area
  • Coaches teachers to implement effective classroom culture techniques that result in a disciplined and consistent, warm and caring, joyful classroom culture
  • Monitors teacher planning against content maps to ensure high-leverage content is taught in every classroom, every day
  • Develops clear and systematic infrastructure for tracking student achievement data within the department at both the formative, summative, and standardized level
  • Leads frequent data analysis meetings with teachers that result in effective reteaching and remediation plans that reach all students and raise student achievement
  • Regularly audits teacher grade books and ensures interventions are in place for failing students
  • In partnership with other leadership team members, plans and executes all standardized testing and quarterly assessments (ANet, EPAS, MAP, etc)
  • Participates in any school-wide school culture initiatives (e.g., culture walks, hallway duty)
  • Participates in instructional walks with school leadership team
  • Evaluates and supervises teachers and/or any assigned support staff members
  • Teaches up to two core content or A Disciplined Life classes each day
  • Completes assigned heavyweight and lightweight duties
  • Other duties as assigned by principal or assistant principal


Essential Duties: Professional Development

  • Designs professional development that drives improvement in teacher growth and student performance
  • Holds teachers accountable for implementation of professional development
  • Develops opportunities for teachers to work together collaboratively during professional development


Essential Duties: Team Leadership

  • Builds trusting and strong relationships with teachers that fuel teacher and student performance
  • Inspires and motivates teams to meet both short-term and long-term goals
  • Invests team in Joslin’s vision for instruction and school culture
  • Invests team in Perspectives’ network-wide vision and improvement initiatives


Essential Duties: Operational Efficiency

  • Procure and coordinates substitutes for team members when absent or leaving early
  • Orders, maintains, inventories, and stores all department supplies
  • Manages department budget within set parameters


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or related field from an accredited College or University
  • Masters in educational leadership preferred
  • Demonstrated, consistent, and quantifiable track record of exceptional student achievement as a reading, literature, or English teacher at the middle school or high school level
  • Must be designated as a certified teacher by the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Must be Highly Qualified according to Illinois State Board of Education

Physical Demands

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Required to sit for long periods of time; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel
  • Specific vision abilities are required for this job, which include distant vision and the ability to adjust focus


Language Skills

  • Ability to read and write proficiently using the English language
  • Ability to interact and speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of people
