Position Announcement
POSITION: The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas Tech University seeks a STEM education assistant professor, preferably with expertise in global education and/or education policy advocacy and/or education change agency, for a tenure track position to begin in August 2016. Summer employment is possible. A start date of January or June 2016 is possible.

DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF INDIVIDUAL SOUGHT: We seek to attract an educator in any STEM field qualified to assume a major role in our master’s and doctoral STEM programs and funded projects in collaboration with teams and individuals in the College of Education, other Texas Tech departments, centers and K-12 schools. We seek a faculty member who will commit to our online and campus STEM graduate programs and to the overall goal of developing professionals with competencies that measurably impact K-12 school success and student achievement. The College collaborates extensively with school districts and other agencies and expects faculty members to engage in these collaborative activities. Preference will be given to STEM educators who have experience working on a research team and a research agenda that focuses on research questions consistent with Texas Tech’s STEM education doctoral degree.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have:
- a doctorate in an area of STEM education or a related field by their start date for the position,
- K-12 STEM teaching experience,
- experience in global education and/or education policy advocacy and/or education change agency,
- an active research agenda in STEM education, and
- a record of job-related, elected or informal leadership in STEM education.
We prefer candidates with one or more of the following qualifications:
- experience in global STEM education and/or STEM education policy advocacy and/or STEM education change agency,
- experience working on a research team and a research agenda that focuses on research questions consistent with Texas Tech’s STEM education doctoral degree’s outcomes of global STEM educator and pragmatic STEM education researcher,
- three or more years K-12 STEM teaching experience in a school or informal education,
- experience teaching at the college level or in a school-based professional development program,
- experience teaching collegiate courses at a distance, particularly in the STEM education field,
- publication in refereed journals, especially in the STEM education field,
- experience in collaborating with K-16 educators,
- involvement and contributions to professional STEM education organizations,
- leadership and collaborative experience in a K-16 and community setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES: Responsibilities include:
- teaching doctoral courses, especially in global education, change agency, policy advocacy and/or research, in Texas Tech’s (mostly) online PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with specialization in STEM education program designed to produce STEM educators who are pragmatic researchers and facilitators of K-12 global STEM education,
- collaborating with other STEM educators to bring the same level of focus to the campus STEM education doctoral program and building and teaching in that program,
- carrying out a vibrant research agenda consistent with the STEM education doctoral program’s emphasis on pragmatic research and global education,
- developing a strong master’s focused on STEM education that especially responds to the needs of K-12 teachers seeking to improve their instruction,
- advising and mentoring STEM graduate students all the way to completion of their doctorate.
- being actively involved in the College’s continuous and dynamic reform agenda.
- providing service to the institution, schools and profession, and
- pursuing external funding in support of research and/or professional development.
