The Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) has withdrawn as the Specialized Professional Association representing Elementary Teacher Education standards and program review.

The AMTE Board has voted to join a letter to House members, drafted by Learning and Education Academic Research Network (LEARN) and AERA, in strong opposition to proposed budget cuts to the U.S. Department of Education and IES.  Learn More

On July 16th, the U.S. Senate approved passage of a bill that rewrites "No Child Left Behind" (the Elementary and Secondary Education Act). The House passed a similar bill earlier this year. More Information

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Dr. Christopher Koch, former Illinois State Superintendent of Education and Vice-Chair of the CAEP Board, as the organization’s Interim President. The current Vice-Chair of CAEP, Koch was also a member of the Commission on Standards and Performance Reporting.

The U.S. Department of Education has released its long-anticipated proposed regulations for teacher preparation programs for public comment – YOUR comment – through the Federal Register. Public comments are accepted through February 2. The Federal Register site states:

June 2014: Teacher Prep Review 2014 is the second edition of NCTQ's annual assessment of the nation's 2,400 teacher prep programs. The Review uncovers early evidence that teacher prep programs are beginning to make changes. It arrives at a time of heightened, unprecedented activity across the nation to improve teacher preparation. The Executive Summary provides an overview of findings and offers "top ten" lists for elementary and secondary teacher preparation. Number one at the secondary level: Western Governors University.
