The University of Washington Tacoma, an urban-serving institution, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education in the Division of Sciences and Mathematics within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS). We seek a candidate demonstrating equity and excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service in the field of mathematics education.
This position will contribute to our new undergraduate mathematics major within an interdisciplinary framework—bringing specific expertise and interest in capstone experiences and curriculum development for the mathematics major—in addition to teaching undergraduate mathematics courses serving students in engineering, business, science, social science, technology, and education. This is a full-time position with a nine-month service period. The position requires collaboration with other faculty in the Division, as well as the broader University of Washington Tacoma community.
The successful candidate will work effectively with student populations underrepresented in STEM-related fields, provide mentor and research opportunities for undergraduates, build community connections, and integrate evidence-based and inclusive pedagogical techniques into undergraduate mathematics teaching and learning. The appointment requires a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Mathematics or a Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Mathematics Education with a strong background in mathematics (masters in mathematics or equivalent is required) and begins September 16, 2017. Establishment of an effective and sustainable program of scholarship in the candidate's field is required for tenure and promotion. Candidates in the final stages of their dissertation will be appointed on an acting basis.
