The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Northern Arizona University (NAU) seeks a dynamic and innovative scholar for a tenure-track assistant professor position in mathematics education beginning August 21, 2017. The successful applicant will further NAU’s commitment to strategically increase its capacity to provide local and national leadership in mathematics education through innovative undergraduate and graduate programs, professional development, and scholarship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree in mathematics education, or in a closely-related field with substantial education and experience in mathematics and mathematics education, expected by August 21, 2017.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with

  • substantial evidence of high quality teaching
  • a demonstrated potential for a productive research program
  • a demonstrated interest/ability to contribute to the department’s mathematics education program at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • three or more years of experience in teaching mathematics at the middle or secondary level
  • experience in teaching mathematics education courses at the university level
  • experience in teaching and developing on-line courses
  • experience in teaching and developing pedagogical courses for combined mathematics and science preservice teachers
  • experience and/or commitment to work effectively with NAU’s diverse faculty, staff, and student populations
  • interest/experience in pursuing research and/or professional development grants
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with pre-service and in-service teachers.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 32 permanent faculty (6 in statistics) and offers Bachelors’ degrees in mathematics and secondary education in mathematics; Masters’ degrees in statistics, mathematics and mathematics education; and a graduate certificate in applied statistics.
