Central Washington University seeks a dynamic individual with relevant K-12 teaching experience to join our team training science and mathematics teaching candidates. The expected start date is September 16, 2017.

Science and mathematics teacher education programs at CWU have started the process to implement the nationally recognized UTeach model for STEM teacher preparation. This position is a new “Master Teacher” position for the CWU UTeach program, i.e., the STEM Teaching Program, for middle-level and secondary science and mathematics teacher candidates. The position is dependent on full approval of the program curriculum. 

The responsibilities of this position include: college-level classroom instruction and curriculum development for the STEM Teaching Program, supervising teacher candidates’ clinical practice experiences in the field, including student teaching and induction (first two years of in-service teaching) support, developing and leading professional development for mentor (in-service) teachers, and providing support for the STEM Teaching Program.

Qualifications include, at minimum, a Master’s Degree in science, mathematics, science or mathematics education, or related field; At least three years’ experience in the last ten years teaching science or mathematics in grades 6-12; Demonstrated ability to apply STEM education research supported best-practices in the classroom; Demonstrated ability to work with school districts and in-service teachers on STEM professional development.

This position will work closely with faculty in the Departments of Science Education and Mathematics in the College of the Sciences, as well as the Department of Curriculum, Supervision, & Education Leadership and the School of Education in the College of Education and Professional Studies. CWU science and mathematics teacher education programs serve over 100 students. We plan to add computer science teacher education in 2018 and to increase the overall number of students in these programs over the next 5-7 years. Our campus is located in scenic Ellensburg, WA, approximately 100 miles SE of Seattle.
