Job Description:
The Summer Academy Math Teaching Assistant (TA) Position offers math educators an opportunity to develop a strong foundation in research-based high-leverage instructional practice within a supportive and inspiring community of educators and motivated public high school students. The position runs from July 5 – August 4, 2017, Monday - Friday. TAs have the possibility of continuing as a Fellow or Instructor in future semesters based on their performance.

Orientation & Training:
- SEO TAs receive a full orientation to Summer Academy teaching at SEO Scholars, along with an opportunity to participate in additional professional development sessions during the semester
Ideal Candidates:
- Are passionate math educators
- Have two or less years of high-school teaching experience (or some teaching or tutoring experience and are looking to become full or part-time math teachers) OR are new to teaching math content.
- Are looking to gain additional practice and professional development to develop their skillset
Responsibilities:
- Review the Math lessons that are running each day (1 lesson total)
- Substitute-teach for a teacher if a last-minute absence occurs*
- Run small-group tutoring ‘Office Hours’ during both lunch periods
- Provide instructional support in classes for 3 hours / day, as per schedule created by the Curriculum & Instruction Team.
- Write a reflection on your observations of instructors each week
- Attend meetings as needed
- Opportunities to teach portions of lessons will be available throughout the semester
*When subbing, TAs are not expected to run office hours, provide in-class instructional support or write a reflection.
Compensation
TAs will be compensated at $200 per diem rate (whether subbing or providing instructional support).
