Desirable additional qualifications: An advanced degree in mathematics as well as additional training in mathematics education, experience teaching pre-service teachers and supervising student teachers, P–12 classroom experience.

Faculty Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities are determined based on the expertise and interests of the faculty and the needs of the department. An ideal candidate will be qualified to teach other courses in mathematics or statistics in addition to teaching courses in the education program, but primary teaching responsibilities will be in courses for pre-service teachers, including the supervision of student teachers.

In addition to being a member of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the education specialist will be a member of and participate in the work of the Education Program Unit. This includes teaching courses for elementary and secondary mathematics education majors and minors, teaching courses for all students in the elementary education program, and serving on Education Program committees. The Education Program Unit includes 41 teaching faculty from across the college and graduates approximately 50 elementary and 35 secondary education majors each year.
