The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in STEM Education with an emphasis in science education. The appointment is a nine-month appointment, effective August 16, 2020. Salary and rank (assistant or associate professor) are commensurate with qualifications and experience. This faculty role emphasizes instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Projected distribution of effort for instruction is between 65-80% with the remaining percentage apportioned across research and service. The anticipated percentage for scholarly activity is between 10-15%.

This faculty member will teach middle grades and secondary science education courses as well as graduate level courses focused on research in the STEM disciplines. The faculty member will also conduct research in science/STEM education resulting in refereed presentations and publications at the national level; collaborate with science, science education, and STEM education faculty to seek extramural funding for research, development, and teacher enhancement activities; assist in developing and teaching new courses for undergraduate and graduate programs; serve on the program faculty committees; advise undergraduate and graduate students; supervise students under a clinically-based teacher education model; and provide service to the community, area schools, university, and professional organizations.

Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in science education or a related area by August 2020, strong concentration of undergraduate and graduate coursework in STEM education, science teaching experience at the K-12 level, and evidence of professional scholarly experience (including national refereed publications and/or presentations) supporting the case for future success in carrying out and directing research in science and/or STEM education. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with historically underrepresented youth, experience teaching at the middle and secondary levels, and experience regarding STEM integration and teaching and learning across the STEM disciplines.
