Call for proposals: RME Special Issue: University Mathematics Courses for Secondary Teacher Preparation

Drs. Orly Buchbinder and Nick Wasserman have initial acceptance for a Special Issue (SI) of Research in Mathematics Education (RME), for which they would serve as guest editors. The SI would focus on “Exploring and strengthening university mathematics courses for secondary teacher preparation,” and aims to reflect recent developments in the field with regard to the role of university mathematics courses in secondary teacher education. Specifically, the SI proposes to explore how various instructional changes in university mathematics courses might translate to improved preparation for secondary teachers. The SI aims to coalesce recent research-based perspectives and findings in this area–from a variety of university mathematics courses, and reflecting a variety of educational approaches. Proposed papers should report on research and development efforts that are supported by empirical studies.

At this stage, the journal has requested further information about potential contributors and their contribution. To respond to their request, we are asking interested authors to submit a short 250-word abstract proposal.

If you are interested in submitting a chapter to this SI in RME, we ask that you email Dr. Orly Buchbinder (orly.buchbinder@unh.edu), and cc Dr. Nick Wasserman (wasserman@tc.columbia.edu), a 250-word abstract for a paper, a title, and the author(s)’ name(s), affiliation(s), and contact information. Abstracts should be submitted by March 31, 2021. For authors selected to develop full chapters, we will be in touch about this decision by August 31, 2021. Full papers would be due in January 2022, to facilitate the peer review process.

If you are interested, or have any questions, please feel free to contact Dr. Buchbinder or Dr. Wasserman.

Sincerely,

Orly Buchbinder and Nick Wasserman
