In Fall 2014, Ms. Gonzalez began a second year as a graduate student in the Mathematics Education EdD program at the University of Houston, Houston, Texas. She decided to attend the doctoral program at the University of Houston to work with Dr. Imani Goffney on her NSF funded project titled Mathematical Knowledge for Equitable Teaching. Prior to working on her doctoral degree, Ms. Gonzalez was an elementary math teacher and later an elementary assistant principal. Her research interests include teaching practices that have a positive influence on students’ mathematical identities and how to create a classroom environment that equalizes status among students.
