2015 AMTE Award Winner: Dr. Eva Thanheiser

Dr. Eva Thanheiser, Associate Professor in the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Portland State University, is the recipient of the 2015 AMTE Early Career Award.

Dr. Thanheiser's research focuses on examining teacher knowledge, the development of that knowledge, and teacher motivation to learn. Her research has been published in journals such as Journal of Research in MathematicsEducational Studies in Mathematics, the Journal of Mathematical Behavior, the Mathematics Teacher Educator, and the Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education. Eva also co-edited a special issue in the Mathematics Enthusiast, which serves as a handbook for preservice elementary teacher content knowledge.

Dr. Thanheiser continues her work on improving mathematics teacher education through her work with her colleagues and graduate students at Portland State University, Teachers Development Group, and her collaborations with colleagues across the country. Prior to her current faculty position, Eva earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at the joint doctoral program at San Diego State University and the University of California at San Diego and has held a position as an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University.
