2016 AMTE Award Winner: Dr. Susan Peters

Dr. Susan A. Peters , Associate Professor in the Department of Middle and Secondary Education at the University of Louisville, is the recipient of the 2016 AMTE Early Career Award. Her research focuses on statistics education and mathematics teacher knowledge, particularly teacher knowledge and education in statistics. Her research has been published in the Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education , the Journal of Mathematical Behavior , and the Statistics Education Research Journal . Her practitioner work appears in journals such as Mathematics Teacher and in NCTM’s On the Money: Math Activities to Build Financial Literacy.

Dr. Peters taught high school mathematics for 16 years at Twin Valley High School in Elverson, PA and earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education at The Pennsylvania State University. She continues to pursue her passions for teacher knowledge and statistics education through her NSF CAREER project to design, implement, and study statistics professional development for middle and high school mathematics teachers and through collaborations with colleagues at the University of Louisville, The Pennsylvania State University, and beyond.
