NAEP Seeks Feedback on Framework

The National Assessment Governing Board is currently leading updates to the Mathematics and Reading Assessment Frameworks for the Nation’s Report Card, also known as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). The frameworks guide development of the assessments and define what knowledge and skills students need in each subject area. Final updates to the frameworks will be reflected in the administration of the 2025 Reading and Mathematics assessments.

WestEd is spearheading these efforts and has convened panels of subject-matter experts, practitioners, and other stakeholders to develop recommendations for improvement. An updated draft of the Mathematics Assessment Framework will be presented to the general public for additional feedback beginning in mid-April. As leaders in mathematics teacher education, members of AMTE are encouraged to provide feedback. The NAEP assessments are important tools for understanding college and career readiness for students in the US.
