Make your plans now to attend the 2020 AMTE Annual Conference in Phoenix, AZ on February 6-8, 2020.
The AMTE Conference Committee is excited about the upcoming conference! The hotel and conference facility are beautiful and there are many sites to see and wonderful places to eat in Phoenix in the evenings.
Some of the highlighted conference sessions include:
Opening Session: Mathematics Teacher Education is undergoing major disruptions, leading to challenges and opportunities. Nationally we have mathematics teacher shortages while enrollment in university-based teacher education programs is dropping. Technologies are changing the ways teachers are educated and the ways that practicing teachers are engaging in professional development. We are more aware of the inequities that affect who learns mathematics and who teaches mathematics. The opening session of the 2020 AMTE Conference will be a panel addressing the future of mathematics teacher education in general and AMTE’s role in particular. We will consider the role AMTE might play as an organization to continue to be relevant ten or more years into the future, including policies and practices we ought to embrace, the partnerships we need to form, and the people who ought to be part of our organization. The panelists will also highlight initiatives that have been successful in addressing some of these challenges. Presenters will be announced at a future date.
Poster Session: The AMTE poster session will be held Friday afternoon.
Judith E. Jacobs Lecture: Friday's featured session will be presented by Paola Sztajn, Bebe Professor of Mathematics Education, Provost Fellow, and Associate Dean for Research and Innovation in the College of Education at North Carolina State University.
The Business Meeting will occur during Saturday's lunch.
