MTE Journal Survey Results

Thank you to all who completed the MTE Improving Publishing Survey in February. The goal of the survey was to help the MTE Editorial Board Panel better understand how Mathematics Teacher Educators (MTEs) use and understand MTE. The survey was distributed to all NCTM and AMTE members via email as well as via the AMTE conference app. Seventy-nine individuals completed the survey.

Findings from the survey helped the Board see that those who completed the survey view the purpose of MTE as an outlet to share activities designed for pre-service teachers in methods or content courses, share activities designed for in-service teachers in methods or content courses, explore new ideas for mathematics professional development, and share research about mathematics teacher education. In addition, respondents use MTE "to plan my math methods or content courses and learning about new research."

Two additional findings emerged from the survey data. First, respondents communicated they were not aware of the MTE Writing Tool to assist authors in preparing manuscripts for MTE. As a result, the Board plans to increase its focus on the tool as part of conference presentations and other outlets for publicizing the journal. Second, respondents indicated they would like more space in MTE to share resources for MTEs that have not necessarily been empirically tested yet. As such, the MTE Editorial Board is working to create a space within the journal to showcase research-based resources for MTEs to use in their work.

The Board thanks the AMTE community again for their continued support of the journal and help in shaping the identity and future of the journal.

We are excited about our current call for a Special Issue on Equity, Identity & Power that can also be found by clicking the link. The deadline for submission is March 1, 2020. We look forward to receiving your submission.
