Biography
Dr. Karisma Morton is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of North Texas. In her teaching, her focus is on helping preservice and inservice teachers to teach mathematics in equitable and culturally responsive ways. In her research she explores the development of elementary preservice teachers’ critical racial consciousness as they prepare to teach elementary mathematics. She also investigates factors influencing minoritized students’ opportunities to learn rigorous mathematics through quantitative analyses of large-scale district and national datasets. Findings from her research have been published in the Journal for Research in Mathematics Education, Mathematics Teacher Educator, and Educational Researcher.
