Special features or areas of interest that would be of interest to potential doctoral students:

Mathematics education at the University of Illinois resides under the "Math, Science and Technology" division of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Our programs focus on the theory and practice of mathematics teaching and learning. Graduate students focus on a variety of topics, including student diversity and equity, problem-based instruction, teacher education/professional development, classroom discourse, curriculum reform, and learning technologies. The Illinois College of Education has a particularly strong faculty in the area of equity in mathematics education, including both quantitative and qualitative researchers in this area. Champaign-Urbana is a vibrant community with something for everyone, and the cost of living is very low.
