On July 16th, the U.S. Senate approved passage of a bill that rewrites "No Child Left Behind" (the Elementary and Secondary Education Act). The House passed a similar bill earlier this year. Congress now has the task of reaching compromise between the two bills (Every Child Achieves in the Senate, Student Success in the House) and putting forward a merged bill for Presidential approval.
The Alliance for Excellent Education has produced a video in their "Federal Flash" series that nicely overviews the current status of the bill. Watch it HERE: http://all4ed.org/videos/federal-flash-july-16-senate-passes-bill-to-rewrite-nclb/
EdWeek's "Politics K-12" blog provides continuing commentary on the progress of these bills. Read recent entries HERE: http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/campaign-k-12/
Various organizations are now releasing statements related to passage of these bills (e.g., see ASCD and Learning Forward). We invite your comments or contributions of additional information!
