Minimum Qualifications: Either doctorate or ABD in Mathematics or equivalent discipline with substantial coursework in Mathematics Education, or doctorate or ABD in Education or equivalent discipline with substantial coursework in Mathematics. A doctoral degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education or equivalent discipline from an accredited university is required for retention beyond the first year of employment. Demonstrated subject matter competence sufficient to teach several upper division and graduate level courses in the Department of Mathematics at CSULA. Record of or potential for scholarly activity, involving students whenever possible. Demonstrated potential for effective teaching using a variety of methodologies. Ability to relate well to others within the academic environment, and demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multi-ethnic, multicultural environment. Proficiency in oral and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Developmental Mathematics and General Education mathematics and interest in becoming involved in the Department's Developmental Mathematics program and its General Education program. Experience with and/or interest in supervision and training of instructors, curriculum development, and community outreach. Ability to support instruction in applied mathematics, broadly understood, and in numerical analysis in particular.
Duties: The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide support for the Department's Developmental Mathematics program. In addition to teaching at all levels, duties include engaging in scholarly activity, as well as committee service for the Department, the College, and the University. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of courses in his/her area of expertise and to participate in the curriculum development process. Publications in peer reviewed journals and/or grant activity are required for tenure, as is participation in university service (such as committee service and university outreach programs).
Salary: Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department is proud of the fact that all of our classes have an enrollment of less than 40 students. In fact, most classes have fewer than 30 students and many of our advanced classes have enrollments of about 20 students.
