Duties:
Teach courses in mathematics including at least 2/3 of the assignment at the basic skills/Associate degree level (arithmetic, prealgebra, elementary algebra, geometry, intermediate algebra) and other courses as needed by the department; instruction in accordance with established course outlines; assist in the math lab; participate in curriculum and course development and review; participate in development and assessment of student learning outcomes; contribute to departmental program review; provide academic and career advisement; maintain office hours; participate in staff development programs, and college, departmental, and faculty organization activities; be an active member of the department and college, serving on committees and contributing to special projects and other assignments in support of student success. Teaching assignment may include afternoon and/or evenings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in mathematics or applied mathematics OR bachelor's degree in either of the above AND master's degree in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR the equivalent* OR possession of an appropriate valid California Community College Credential authorizing service in the specified subject area(s). Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the socio-economic, academic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the college student population including students with physical and/or learning disabilities as these factors relate to differences in learning styles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in mathematics; experience teaching in a college environment; demonstrated commitment to the educational needs of basic skills mathematics students; experience with programs involved with student equity and bridging achievement gaps; experience with technology currently used in mathematics instruction and willingness to explore newly developing technologies;
