Overview
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in the College of Science at Utah State University, invites applications for a Professional Practice Assistant Professor position at the Logan campus of Utah State University with a start date of August 1, 2022. The position is an academic year (nine-month) non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of summer teaching for additional compensation. Outstanding performance in the position can lead to promotion to Professional Practice Associate Professor and subsequently to Professional Practice Professor.
This position is part of a faculty cluster hire in USU's College of Science, and we seek applicants with demonstrated capacity to contribute to USU's justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) missions and goals while also contributing to excellence in USU's education mission. The successful applicant would join the College of Science's JEDI Collaboratory, a thematic mentoring and collaboration network.
Responsibilities
The major responsibilities of the position include teaching courses serving our K-12 mathematics teacher preparation programs and professional master’s (Master of Mathematics) program, supporting school and university partnerships to improve the learning and teaching of mathematics in public schools, modeling high-quality undergraduate mathematics and statistics pedagogical strategies, and innovation in undergraduate teaching.
Additional responsibilities include participating with the Department’s Mathematics and Statistics Education Group, and in regional, national, and international mathematics education organizations by attending conferences and leading presentations or publishing works in practitioner or research journals.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Doctoral Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent professional experience with at least 24 credit hours of graduate level mathematics or statistics content;
• A record of excellence in teaching or mathematics and statistics education scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching K-12 mathematics is preferred.
