The Lastinger Center for Learning is an education innovation hub within UF’s College of Education focused on creating equitable education systems that improve teaching and learning across early childhood and K-12 education. Specifically, the Center targets kindergarten readiness, 3rd grade reading proficiency, and algebra proficiency as critical milestones in children’s educational trajectory that are predictive of success in school and life. The Center works at the nexus of research, practice, and policy to develop sustainable systems that leverage educational technologies and improve the implementation of research-based practices. In mathematics, the Center developed Math Nation and its flagship program, Algebra Nation - a mathematics teaching and learning system that offers tailored tools and resources to support students and teachers of Algebra 1, geometry, and Algebra 2.

The Center is currently designing, developing, implementing and scaling a modular professional learning system for mathematics teachers. This competency-based professional learning system will develop educators’ knowledge and skills for effective mathematics instruction. Similar to the Lastinger Center’s previously created Literacy Matrix, each concept presented in the Math Matrix will include foundational content and job-embedded strategies in the areas of instruction, assessment, and intervention with a focus on enhanced content proficiency. Educators will also have the opportunity to apply these strategies and submit practicum activities as evidence of their learning for personalized review and feedback.

The Center is seeking to hire an associate with research expertise in Mathematics Education to provide creative leadership and subject matter expertise. The associate’s main assignment will be research and development, particularly of the Math Matrix. There will also be some expectation for evaluation, dissemination, and grant-writing. This is a non-tenure track position.
