PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Athenian School seeks a full-time mathematics teacher to teach a total of four year long sections in two or three subjects. During the 2023-24 school year, those subjects will likely be some combination of Algebra 1, Geometry, and/or Calculus. Successful candidates will have demonstrated the desire to, and the capabilities for, collaboratively generating curricula and classroom practices that help students develop mathematical habits of mind and learn the specific skills necessary to express and apply them. They will also have had experience with, or be interested in learning about, the design and implementation of equitable grading practices. Such candidates will also be drawn to meaningfully finding ways to express Athenian’s Pillars in our classrooms: Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, Service. We seek an educator who models lifelong learning and becomes an active part of our vibrant community outside of the classroom. Successful candidates will also bring experience with differentiated, experiential, and culturally responsive teaching practices.

In addition to these responsibilities, faculty have the chance to apply for and serve as part of our residential life team which would include dormitory housing. Faculty also have the opportunity to coach a sport for a supplemental stipend.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will bring  strong cultural competency and the capacity to work with students, families and colleagues who represent a broad range of identities and experiences. We seek candidates that have experience teaching high school mathematics, solid classroom management skills and the ability to teach any core subject from Algebra 1 through Calculus. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mathematics or a related field. The ability to teach Statistics, Financial Math, or other advanced subjects would be a plus. 

BENEFITS, COMPENSATION, PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. Community members enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center. The salary for this role will range from $75,900 - $137,800. Additionally, faculty receive additional stipends for completed Masters and Doctoral degrees. 

All employees participate in school wide professional development, and have the opportunity to pursue a range of additional professional growth opportunities. These include, but are not limited to, funded participation in professional conferences and continuing education opportunities. Athenian provides needed training for CPR/AED certification.

All employees are expected to attend all-school functions relevant to their role and to participate in supporting the student experience with other school duties as requested by their direct supervisor.
