ABOUT THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT:
We take great pride in our history as the first public institution in the United States to prepare school educators and the excellent reputation our educator preparation programs have today. Our highly regarded and diverse faculty are exemplary educators, caring practitioners, and dedicated scholars and researchers, dedicated to the university's values of antiracism, social justice, and transformative public education. The Education Department offers majors in early childhood education, elementary education, and child and family studies, as well as minors in secondary education, child and family studies, and education. The department sponsors PBTL and M.Ed. graduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, language and literacy, teaching of English to speakers of other languages, STEM, secondary education, and others.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Department of Education seeks applicants for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position starting September 1, 2024.
Responsibilities include a teaching load of three four-credit courses per semester, student advising, continuing scholarship, and service to the department and University community. Teaching duties will include early childhood and elementary mathematics methods courses, pre-practicum and practicum observations and supervision, and other opportunities. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated record of scholarship and will be expected to continue maintaining a productive research agenda. A demonstrated commitment to anti-racist pedagogy, diversity, equity, and inclusion, student/faculty collaboration, and professional growth is expected.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate in education or a closely related field by 8/31/2024.
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in an early childhood and/or elementary school setting.
- Evidence of a growing and/or established scholarly publication record.
- Strong collegial and collaborative skills.
- Experience with or a demonstrated willingness to participate in teaching, mentoring, research, or service activities that promote the growth of an equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist academic environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful early childhood or elementary mathematics methods teacher education experience at the university level.
- Successful student teaching practicum program supervision experience.
- Effective record of hybrid or online teaching experience at the university level.
- Five years of successful teaching experience in an early childhood and/or elementary school setting.
- Experience with supporting state program approval processes for teacher licensure programs (e.g., Massachusetts DESE).
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) bargaining unit at a faculty rank commensurate with experience and credentials. Salary commensurate with experience in accordance with Appendix O of the MSCA contract (http://mscaunion.org/day-and-dgce-contracts/)
