Job Description:

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure-track position (F0124) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2025. The department offers a concentration in mathematics education leading to 6-12 licensure and supports degree programs in elementary, middle, and special education.

Professional responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours per semester of undergraduate mathematics education, which focuses on mathematics content and pedagogy for pre-service teachers at all grade levels. Depending on credentials, teaching mathematics courses as well as supervision of student teachers in grades 6-12 may be required. Additional teaching opportunities may include courses in Longwood's Civitae Core Curriculum. In addition to the primary responsibility of innovative undergraduate teaching, faculty are also expected to advise students in the major, engage in scholarship and professional activity, and participate in service at the department and university levels.

 

Requirements:

  • The candidate will possess a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Mathematics Education or a related field.
  • At least 18 graduate hours in Mathematics are required.
  • ABD candidates will be considered for those with an expected completion date of August 2025.
  • Teaching licensure is strongly preferred. 
  • Candidates whose interest is in elementary mathematics education are preferred.  
  • Candidates with demonstrated college teaching ability and commitment to working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission are preferred.  
  • K-12 teaching experience is preferred.

 

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, tenure-track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
