Two Opportunities to Support your Pre-service Elementary Mathematics Teachers

Would you like an opportunity to examine a robust set of instructional materials designed for mathematics content courses for elementary PSTs?

-Gain access to student materials, instructor guides, support videos and more
-Join a free day-long professional development seminar on February 7, 2018

The Elementary Mathematics Project (EMP)

The EMP project is an NSF-funded project whose overarching goal is to develop and disseminate learning materials that focus on mathematical knowledge for teaching, use discourse-based instructional strategies, and strengthen elementary pre-service teachers’ understanding of mathematics. http://elementarymathproject.com

February 7, 2018: A Professional Learning Opportunity for You!

The EMP project will be hosting a free full-day professional learning experience for mathematics teacher educators and instructors to learn more about and engage with the EMP materials. The session will take place at the Westin Galleria in Houston, TX on Wednesday, February 7th beginning at 9:00 am. Please contact Lynsey Gibbons (lgibbons@bu.edu) for more detail or to sign up.

Seeking Instructors for Field Testing Materials

Phase III of EMP is seeking instructors who teach content or methods courses to pre-service elementary students and would be interested in field testing our instructional materials.  We are looking for feedback on any of four units: number concepts, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and geometry. Each unit consists of 6-10 lessons. You will have access to student materials, corresponding instructor’s guides, homework materials, background information, and answer keys. In addition, our website includes video clips of the enactment of parts of the lessons with undergraduates and a searchable video library.  Field testers will be compensated for their time and efforts. We are currently recruiting field testers for the 2018-19 academic year.

EMP is funded by NSF (DUE-1625784, 2016-2021).  Faculty members at Boston University working on this project include Suzanne Chapin, Ziv Feldman, and Lynsey Gibbons. Please contact Lynsey at lgibbons@bu.edu with questions or if you are interested in participating in the full-day workshop on 2/7/18 or the field testing.
