The USF College of Education invites applications for a tenure-earning assistant professorship, appointed to the Sarasota-Manatee campus. Responsibilities will include teaching mathematics content and methods courses for preservice teachers, sustaining a significant research program in elementary mathematics education, and engaging in service activities.
The College of Education: The mission of the College of Education (COEDU) at the University of South Florida is to promote transformative education and social justice through rigorous research, innovative teaching, as well as locally and globally engaged partnerships. The COEDU prepares educators poised to positively impact the lives of pupils in the state and nation. Our programs are grounded in research-based practices and critical perspectives and implemented in a variety of professional field experiences designed and led by university and associated school faculty. Our partnerships with local schools form a solid basis for program assessment based on outcomes, revision of the curriculum based on impact data, and the identification of specific knowledge, skills, and dispositions that are crucial for educator success. The College of Education is accredited. Underscoring a commitment to arts integrated teaching, the Center for PAInT (Partnerships in Arts-Integrated Teaching) collaborates with the COEDU. The state-wide Center exists to develop and support partnerships dedicated to preparing effective educators who will learn, lead, inspire, and transform their schools and communities in, with, and through the arts. On the Sarasota-Manatee campus, the COEDU currently offers an undergraduate major in Elementary Education, Interdisciplinary Education and graduate degrees in Educational Leadership (M.Ed.), and Elementary Education (M.A.T.). Three concentrations of the Educational Leadership Master of Education (M.Ed.) prepare leaders for diverse settings: K-12 Public School Leadership, Curriculum Leadership, and Non-Public or Charter School Leadership.
Qualifications: This position requires an earned doctorate in mathematics education or a related field. Candidates should have a strong program of research in mathematics education as well as experience in K-12 classroom teaching. Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in mathematics education. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong commitment to research and to serving diverse populations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in mathematics education, or a related field.
- Three years of teaching experience in a public or non-public K-12 setting.
- Completion of at least 18 graduate level credit hours in mathematics education for candidates whose doctorate is not in that subject.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in university teaching in traditional and/or online environments.
- More than three years of teaching experience in a K-12 setting.
- Experience in arts-integrated teaching and learning.
- A well-articulated research agenda in elementary mathematics education.
- A record of publication, scholarly presentation, and/or pursuit of external funding.
- Experience supervising preservice educators.
- Evidence of commitment to serving diverse learners.
