Biography
Fardowsa Mahdi is a doctoral student at the University of North Texas (UNT) pursuing a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Mathematics Education. Before beginning her doctoral degree, Fardowsa had taught middle school and high school mathematics in local and international schools, and college-level mathematics for ten years. As a teaching fellow, she currently teaches math methods courses to elementary preservice teachers. She is also working on several research projects with the math education faculty at UNT as a graduate research assistant including a lesson study project investigating math teacher educators’ use of equitable teaching in their own practice with preservice teachers. The study is an inter-institutional one involving math teacher educators across the state of Texas. Fardowsa’s primary research interests include mathematics teaching and learning, and identity development through teacher reflections. In particular, Fardowsa is interested in close examination of preservice mathematics teachers’ emerging abilities for promote equity-based instructional practices that can strengthen and support all learners in the mathematics classroom.
