Biography
James Drimalla is a fourth-year doctoral candidate pursuing a PhD in Mathematics Education at the University of Georgia. He also holds an MS in Mathematics from Loyola University of Chicago and a BA in Mathematics and Secondary Education from Trinity International University. His research focuses on the philosophy of mathematics education and aims to help mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher educators grapple with larger questions like: what is mathematics? what is the purpose of mathematics education? how is the teaching of mathematics always embedded within a vision of justice and ethics? He hopes to have a local impact with mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher educators by making philosophical reflection on their foundational commitments both accessible and practical.
