Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education (tenure track)
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of North
Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track position as an
Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education starting August, 2024. With
close to 40 primary faculty members, more than 250 undergraduate majors and
70 graduate students, a masters’ program with several concentrations
(including mathematics education), and a robust Ph.D. program, the Department
remains one of the largest and most diverse departments in the College of
Science. Currently, the department is home to five tenure-track and two
full-time non-tenure track faculty in mathematics education. These faculty
teach courses within the department and advise students in both the
master’s program and the Ph.D. program in Curriculum and Instruction (with
a concentration in Mathematics Education) in the College of Education. They
regularly interact with colleagues in the College of Education and the Center
for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education
(CSTEM).
Required Qualifications:
A doctoral degree in mathematics education, or equivalent
At least 18 hours of graduate mathematics or statistics content coursework,
or equivalent
Demonstrated expertise in mathematics education
A commitment to establishing a productive research program
A commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate
levels to a diverse student body.
Preferred Qualifications:
Research experience in mathematics education at the undergraduate level
K-16 teaching experience or equivalent teaching experience
Evidence of potential to obtain external funding
Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain an active research program in mathematics education
Seek external funding
Teach undergraduate courses for K-12 pre-service teachers (both content and
methods)
Support the Math Pathways initiative
Teach graduate courses for the master’s and doctoral students
Provide service to the department, the university and the profession
