By offering three different specializations in mathematics education, our program requirements align better to the specific research interests of our students. Students interested in researching mathematics education at the undergraduate level are required to develop a graduate level understanding of mathematics (equivalent to getting a masters degree in mathematics). Students researching mathematics education at the secondary school level are required to develop an undergraduate level understanding of mathematics (meeting requirements equivalent to those of a bachelors program in mathematics). Finally, students researching mathematics education at the elementary level are required to have a good understanding of undergraduate level calculus and other mathematics courses that are decided upon negotiation with their advisors.
