President's Message

Strengthening Organizational & Strategic Partnerships as a Reflective Response towards the Goals of Mathematics Teacher Education

As mathematics teacher educators, we find ourselves at a vital stage that simultaneously calls for reflection, innovation and action. The challenges and opportunities facing mathematics and STEM education are increasingly complex and interconnected, requiring collaborative leadership that extends beyond the boundaries of any single organization. Mathematics teacher educators possess the expertise, creativity, and collective strength needed to address these challenges; however, our greatest impact emerges when we work together across communities and multiple professional organizations. Through AMTE’s strategic partnerships with organizations in teacher education, including disciplinary groups focused on mathematics, statistics, data science, modeling, and STEM education; we strengthen our collective capacity to advocate for learners, support educators, and advance meaningful educational change.

Bringing Communities and Professional Organizational Efforts Together

In partnership with groups and organizations such as the Conference Board of Mathematical Sciences(CBMS), National Association for Family, School and Community Engagement (NAFSCE), Just Equations, and many others together we can contribute collaborative perspectives and combined expertise to our broader educational ecosystem. Through strategic partnerships, together we create opportunities to align efforts, amplify shared priorities, and engage in thoughtful advocacy on behalf of mathematics teacher education. These partnerships remind us that advancing our profession is not solely the responsibility of one organization, but rather the result of coordinated actions committed to educational excellence, equity, and advocacy. By bringing our collective strengths together, we are better positioned to shape the future of mathematics teacher education and expand opportunities for learners, educators, and communities.

Leading Professional Learning

One of the greatest strengths of AMTE is our ability to create spaces where mathematics teacher educators can learn with and from one another. Professional learning is more than a conference, webinar, or workshop; it is the ongoing cultivation of relationships, ideas, and communities that support both personal and professional growth. As we look ahead to the 2027 AMTE Annual Conference in Baltimore, we are reminded of the extraordinary commitment and leadership that make these opportunities possible.

On behalf of the AMTE Board of Directors, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to AMTE's VP of Professional Learning, Dr. Jennifer A. Wolfe and the 2027 Conference Program Chair Dr. Alesia Moldavan, our Conference Committee, led by Conference Director Tonja Britt and AVP for Conference Dr. Ashley Schmidt. Their dedication, expertise, and countless hours of service are helping create a conference experience and vision that reflects the brilliance and innovation of our membership. We are also fortunate to benefit from the leadership of Dr. Skip Fennell, who serves as Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee. Dr. Fennell's visionary leadership across decades of service to the field of mathematics education and numerous professional organizations continues to inspire our community. We are deeply grateful for his generosity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to supporting mathematics educators.

Differentiated Mentorship Opportunities

Mentorship remains one of the most powerful ways we strengthen our profession and sustain our community. At its core, mentorship is about supporting, forming, and nurturing communities of brilliant scholars who learn from one another while advancing research, teaching, service, and leadership. Through programs such as the AMTE’s STaR Program, led by Dr. Anthony Fernandes, Dr. Jennifer A. Wolfe, Dr. Amanda Jansen, Dr. Belinda Edwards, and Dr. Carlos LópezLeiva, as well as our BIPOC Mentorship Program, led by Dr. Lateefah Id-Deen and Dr. Marrielle Myers, AMTE continues to support scholars across all stages of their professional journeys.

Mentoring efforts reflect AMTE's commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive professional community where emerging, early-career, mid-career, and advanced scholars can thrive. Stay tuned for more mentoring and mentorship opportunities with AMTE! Beyond professional guidance, these programs create spaces of belonging, encouragement, and collective growth. They strengthen our capacity as a profession by ensuring that scholars have opportunities to receive meaningful feedback, build professional networks, develop leadership skills, and contribute their unique expertise to mathematics teacher education.

As part of this commitment to strengthening our community, the AMTE Board and leadership teams continue to seek opportunities to deepen relationships with sponsors and exhibitors whose missions align with the values and goals of our organization. We are extremely grateful for our current sponsors and partners and are seeking additional strategic sponsorships whose generous support helps make many of AMTE's programs, initiatives, and professional learning opportunities possible. Their commitment to mathematics teacher education reflects a shared investment in supporting educators, scholars, and future generations of learners. Through Strengthening Organizational & Strategic Partnerships as a Reflective Response towards the Goals of Mathematics Teacher Education, we will continue leading as a diverse community of scholars to serve the evolving needs of our communities!
