Biography
Amy Brass is a second-year doctoral student pursuing a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Mathematics Education at Penn State University. Her research interests focus on how democratic mathematics education influences mathematical identity and agency as well as how mathematical modeling and mathematical argumentation can be used to foster notions of citizenship and promote democratic ideals. Prior to attending Penn State, Amy worked with preservice and in-service teachers of all grade levels at different universities across the United States and at a university in Australia. She started her teaching career as a middle school mathematics teacher in Iowa and in Michigan.
