Biography
Sid Jennings is a 5th year doctoral student in mathematics education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before arriving in Madison, he spent 11 years as a middle and high school math teacher and moonlighted as a community college professor of mathematics. Sid’s research interests have been drawn to mathematics identity development in pre-service elementary school teachers through mathematics content courses. He desires to see mathematics content courses for teachers shift their focus from imparting mathematics knowledge to helping pre-service elementary school teachers develop healthy relationships with mathematics. Sid believes that one avenue for achieving this is an explicit emphasis on valuing and showcasing student thinking and a multiplicity of strategies in approaching problems.
Sid splits his time between teaching mathematics content courses for teachers in the School of Education and teaching courses for the Math Department.
