Central Washington University seeks a dynamic individual with relevant K-12 mathematics teaching experience to join our team training mathematics and science teaching candidates. This is a 10 month, full-time non-tenure track position expected to start on September 1, 2018.

 

Mathematics and science teacher education programs at CWU have recently implemented the nationally recognized UTeach model for STEM teacher preparation. This position is a new “Master Teacher” position for the CWU UTeach program, i.e., the STEM Teaching Program, for middle-level and secondary mathematics and science teacher candidates.

 

The responsibilities of this position include: college-level classroom instruction and curriculum development for the STEM Teaching Program, supervising teacher candidates’ clinical practice experiences in the field, including student teaching and induction (first two years of in-service teaching) support, developing and leading professional development for mentor (in-service) teachers, supporting a diverse student body, and service for the STEM Teaching Program.

 

Qualifications include, at minimum, a Master’s Degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or related field; At least three years’ experience in the last ten years teaching mathematics in grades 6-12; Demonstrated ability to apply mathematics and STEM education research supported best-practices in the classroom; Demonstrated ability to work with school districts and in-service teachers on mathematics and STEM professional development, and experience and demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

 

This position will work closely with faculty in the Departments of Mathematics and Science Education in the College of the Sciences, as well as the Department of Curriculum, Supervision, & Education Leadership and the School of Education in the College of Education and Professional Studies. CWU mathematics and science teacher education programs serve over 100 students, and our goal is to increase this number and candidate diversity in the next five years. Our campus is located in scenic Ellensburg, WA, approximately 100 miles SE of Seattle.
