Director creates and executes management plans, assesses priorities, aligns resources, and recommends opportunities for innovation. Perform program administration, provides leadership for the development, expansion, assessment, and administration of program through partnerships with the University’s academic departments.

The Director of the Math Learning Center at Boise State University leads a student success-oriented general education mathematics program, including multi-faceted placement processes, high enrollment courses with good passing rates, and robust co-requisite enrollment, tutoring and other academic support systems. Curricula centers around the ALEKS platform with a strong culture of instruction focused on building students’ beliefs and abilities in mathematics. The Math Learning Center will engage, collaborate, and expand first-year student experiences across the university, as well as envisioning support for students continuing on into calculus.

The Director position is a 12-month professional staff position. Candidates must be able to work on-site.

The new Director will find Boise State University is an exciting place to work. We are a large, public university in Idaho with an enrollment of more than 24,000 students, located in Idaho’s capital city and largest metropolitan area. The university engages local government, businesses - including a growing high-tech sector, health care providers, and populations across the state as well as the region. Manages a program, regardless of size, that has critical impact upon the campus. Significant responsibility for formulating and administering policies and programs, manages significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a very high degree of autonomy. Frequently influences business decisions made by senior leadership. Oversees through subordinate Managers the accountability and stewardship of campus resources and the development of systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Negotiates and influences others to understand and accept new concepts, practices and approaches.

60% of Time the Program Director must:

• This position manages curriculum development and approvals, enrollment projections, budget, schedules courses, hires instructors, promotes the program, supervises department staff, directs committees, and manages partnerships with other academic programs/departments.
• Strategic planning, data analysis, self-study accreditation reviews, and department annual reports are all essential components of this position.
• Manage appropriated and local budgets
• Act as the first point of contact with partner program/department chairs for initiation of all academic partnerships including but not limited to curriculum, revenue sharing, program development, and related student support.
• Direct needs assessments for students and may review course/instructor evaluations and act on them as needed.
• Responsible for the hiring, supervision, and assessment of staff
• Approve faculty contracts to ensure compliance with university procedures, deadlines, and availability of budgeted funds.

35% of Time the Program Director must:

• Coordinate with the mathematics department to design dedicated support for students as they transition into and through the calculus sequence (e.g., work with faculty to build a strong bridge)
• Support the professional development of instructors and graduate students in MLC and calculus courses
• Foster collaboration across units (e.g. mathematics, Engineering)
• Coordinate with the First-Year Experiences Director to support our First Year Experience Initiatives
• Teach one MLC course per semester
• Interview, hire, train, and evaluate new and returning adjunct faculty, consultation with the mathematics department when joint appointments are made
• Consult with the Chair of the Mathematics Graduate Program Committee in the appointment of teaching assistants and coordinate their training
• Evaluate the teaching abilities of the graduate assistants and set future teaching assignments
• Manage MLC tasks and support all sessions for summer and winter orientations
• Coordinate with the mathematics department on state and campus committee representation
• Maintain an equity lens for students and student support work

5% of Time the Program Director must:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• 8 years experience or equivalent, including 5 years experience in leading and/or administrative roles

Preferred Qualifications:
