Founded in 1948, Newtown Friends School is a prekindergarten through 8th grade Quaker day school in Newtown, Pennsylvania, located 30 miles northeast of Philadelphia. The School offers an innovative and challenging academic program, grounded in Quaker values. The Upper School (grades 6 – 8) features a dynamic student-centered program of study that focuses on teaching students to be active participants in the learning process. Mathematics Teacher
The Upper School is seeking candidates for a full time 7th/8th grade mathematics teacher. Newtown Friends’ Upper School (grades 6 – 8) features an engaging student-centered program of study that focuses on teaching students to be active participants in the learning process. Applicants must have a broad background in mathematics topics from pre-algebra to algebra 1 and algebra 2. Math teaching experience (grades 6 – 8) preferred. Experience working with cooperative and differentiated instruction is desired. Candidates would also serve as an advisor to a group of 10-12 middle school students.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Math or an Education degree with a Mathematics focus. An advanced degree is strongly desired. The successful candidate will have excellent rapport with and knowledge of middle school students (ages 10 – 14) and enjoy working with them in a variety of school activities in addition to classroom teaching. A background or experience in an advisory program is desired. They should have an interest in supporting students' development of the necessary academic, social, and attitudinal skills to achieve 21st-Century leadership. Candidates should be ready to engage in helping the school to achieve its goal of being an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals. Familiarity with Quaker education and the ability to coach is a plus.
