Assistant Professor (tenure-track) Position in Mathematics Education

The Department of Learning, Teaching & Curriculum (LTC) at the University of Missouri seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in mathematics education (9-month appointment). The successful candidate will have a doctorate in mathematics education (or a related field), a demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship, a commitment to pursue external funding consistent with the University’s status as an Association of American Universities (AAU) member, and relevant skills with regard to teaching, service, and collaboration. A faculty member filling this position will maintain an active program of research complementing that of current mathematics education and College of Education & Human Development faculty. Of particular interest are scholars whose research is based in PK–12 schooling and examines critical/social-historical perspectives on mathematics education or the intersections of mathematics education and policy.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain an active program of research and scholarship with the potential for external funding
• Teach courses related to mathematics education consistent with the program and departmental instructional needs (e.g., middle school education, elementary mathematics teaching methods, secondary mathematics teaching methods, or a combination thereof)
• Advise and provide research supervision to doctoral students in mathematics education and serve on dissertation committees for students in the department or college
• Provide leadership to the program, department, college, and university

Qualifications:

An earned doctorate in mathematics education or a related field

Applicants will be evaluated based upon the following criteria:

• Record of (or demonstrated potential for) scholarly productivity
• Success as a collaborator on a scholarly or instructional team
• Ability to teach and mentor prospective and in-service teachers of mathematics
• Ability to work and engage collegially with individuals from PK–12 settings as well as with department, university, and community members
