Math Institute of Wisconsin (formerly Brookhill): looking for research partners

Colleagues,

The Mathematics Institute of Wisconsin (formerly known as Brookhill) has recently been in touch looking for research partners to study the efficacy of their teacher professional development programs across the state of Wisconsin.  MIW has data related to mathematics content-focused professional development across the PK-12 spectrum and recent work on pedagogy through coaching models.  A brief description of the MIW's work is below; graduate students and faculty with interests in teacher professional learning are encouraged to reach out to MIW and discuss research-practice partnerships that would tap into their robust network of teachers and districts.

If interested, please contact MIW Presdient and CEO Kathryn Leverenz (kathryn.leverenz@mathinstitutewi.org).

The Mathematics Institute of Wisconsin, (MIW) is a charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a budget of $1.45 Million and a staff
of 7 FTE.  The Math Institute serves the education field and its mission is to offer K-12 teachers, coaches and administrators high
quality professional development designed to improve their knowledge and teaching of mathematics.  MIW staff are content and pedagogy experts in mathematics. The Math Institute offers workshops throughout the year focused on a single domain or conceptual category, customized work throughout the state on alignment with district goals, and coaching opportunities based on a Cognitive Coaching model.  The Math Institute works directly with its stakeholders: teachers, principals, para-professionals, substitute teachers, coaches, administrators, representatives from the Wisconsin Math Council and the Department of Public Instruction to improve student learning of mathematics. The Math Institute was created with private funding, one single source, and is therefore, legally class fied as a private operating foundation. The Math Institute was created to work with teachers to make them better because high-quality teaching is the single most important factor in raising student achievement. The Mathematics Institute of Wisconsin partners with school districts throughout Wisconsin to support implementation of Wisconsin State Standards as well as improve teacher effectiveness and math instruction in their schools.   MIW’s professional learning helps teachers:

·     increase their understanding of the math they teach;
·     deepen their insights into how children best learn math; and
·     develop effective strategies for teaching children mathematics.

Our focus has been on educators in Wisconsin and to date, we have worked with over 7,500 teachers, coaches and administrators since our Wisconsin State Standards were implemented.
