AMTEC (Connnecticut)

The Connecticut chapter of AMTE, AMTEC – the Associated Mathematics Teacher Educators in Connecticut – is hosting its spring conference and business meeting on March 6, 2020 at the University of Hartford. We will engage a collaborative exchange of course materials; discuss efforts toward high school reform in mathematics in the state; and discuss the new implementation of edTPA which, for the first year, will have a consequential cut off score for teacher candidate licensing. Having connected with some wonderful colleagues from Massachusetts in Phoenix at the AMTE annual conference, we’ve started discussions to see if we might organize a New England-based Math Teacher Educator conference. HAMTE (Indiana)

The Hoosier Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators continues to encourage and support the development of excellent mathematics teachers in Indiana. On March 6 we will support the Indiana Mathematics Education Research Symposium (IMERS) with keynote speakers Danny Martin of the University of Illinois - Chicago and Barbara Dennis of Indiana University - Bloomington. IMERS is a symposium organized by and for graduate students in Indiana. This year, we have graduate students coming from Illinois and Tennessee, too. HAMTE members will facilitate sessions and provide feedback to the participants. In conjunction with the symposium, HAMTE will also have their spring lunch retreat – a time to share ideas and develop collaborations across the state.  June 23-25 HAMTE will again host the Indiana Mathematics Leadership Academy. The academy develops district teams of grades K-12 school principals (and/or assistant principals) and teacher leaders (classroom teachers, instructional coaches, etc) with the knowledge and tools to strengthen their leadership capacity for improving mathematics teaching and learning in their schools. A recent focus within HAMTE is the development of collaborative efforts between institutions for developing programs for teachers or combined research efforts. One collaboration already begun is a study of the development of elementary mathematics teachers using the NCTM Principles to Action Professional Learning Toolkit. This collaboration includes classrooms at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Taylor University, and Western Washington University.  We hope to promote more collaborations within the coming months.

MI-AMTE (Michigan)

MI-AMTE 2020 Annual Conference, Conversations Among Colleagues, will be held at the University of Michigan. There will be pre-conference activities on Friday, March 20, 2020, and the All-day conference will be on Saturday, March 21, 2020. The theme of the conference is 20/20 A vision for Mathematics Teacher Education. The conference will be anchored by plenary talks by the chair for the U.S. National Commission on Mathematics Instruction John Staley and Deborah Loewenberg Ball of the University of Michigan.

PAMTE (Pennsylvania)

On Wednesday, March 25th at 4pm, PAMTE will co-sponsor a webinar entitled, "Designing and Implementing Equitable K-14 Mathematics Pathways." At the webinar, Diane Briars, Chair of the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences and immediate past-president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, will present information about course pathway design and implementation along with related policies. To register for the webinar visit:  https://amte.net/content/webinar-designing-and-implementing-equitable-k-14-mathematics-pathways . In addition to the webinar, PAMTE looks forward to its 14th annual symposium on May 13th and 14th to be held at Shippensburg University. MTEs will convene to share research and discuss teaching.

WI-AMTE (Wisconsin)

WI-AMTE continues to host our Dynamic Discussions on the second Wednesday of each month from 7 to 8.  Past topics have included flipped classroom, and a review of the state standards. Our next few discussions beginning on March 11th will focus on the special issue of the Mathematics Enthusiast special issue on teacher education. People interested in joining for future events can sign up at: https://forms.gle/HuzHAnp3W39GfG6X8

Every issue of AMTE Connections includes an affiliates-focused section called Affiliates Corner. Each affiliate and affiliate region may submit news items describing recent and upcoming activities and initiatives. ACC regional representatives will communicate the calls for submissions to all affiliate leaders.

Affiliates are welcome to submit news items in advance of the official call. Send your news to amteaffiliate@gmail.com using the heading NEWS ITEM. The submission will be included in the next edition of AMTE Connections’ Affiliates Corner.

Managing your Affiliate Page in the AMTE Affiliates Directory

Is your affiliate’s page in the AMTE Affiliates Directory up to date? One representative from each affiliate can be granted access to edit that affiliate’s information in the online directory. Each affiliate page includes an overview section that can link to the affiliate website, a list of affiliate leaders, and a section for additional information.
