Position
The Department of Secondary Education in the College of Education at California State University, Fullerton is seeking a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of secondary teacher education with expertise and research interests related to Just, Equitable and Inclusive approaches to secondary teacher education generally, and foundational level mathematics (grades 6-10) teacher education specifically. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual committed to promoting just, equitable, and inclusive education to teach in and contribute to leadership in the Single Subject Credential Program: http://ed.fullerton.edu/seced/. The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will include the development and teaching of introductory and core courses in Foundational Level Mathematics (FLM) as well as the coordination of the FLM credential program (recruitment, advisement, and support of FLM teacher candidates). Specific courses this person will teach include EDSC 442M Methods of Teaching Foundational Level Mathematics; EDSC 449 Foundational Level Mathematics Second Semester Seminar; and EDSC 542M Advanced Methods in Foundational Level Mathematics. In addition, this person may be asked to teach other courses in the Single Subject Credential Program such as EDSC 310, 320, 330, and 340 (program prerequisites) and EDSC 440S (first semester general pedagogy). There may also be opportunities to teach in our 100% online Master of Science in Transformative Teaching in Secondary Education program focused on educational equity and the design of culturally and linguistically sustaining curriculum.

In addition to teaching, this person will also be responsible for producing scholarship and creative works that contribute to the department and the profession commensurate with the requirements for tenure with a specific focus on critical approaches to STEM education (including the examination of power, privilege, and exclusion as well as strategies to disrupt traditional approaches to and narrative of STEM teaching and learning) in the context of demonstrated improvement of K-12 education and/or teacher education. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Teacher Education, Mathematics Education, or a related field of education from an accredited institution (if ABD, doctorate must be completed by start date);
  • Three (3) or more years of full-time public-school teaching experience as a credentialed teacher of mathematics at the upper elementary level and/or secondary level (grades 5-12);
  • Scholarship and/or research related to critical approaches to STEM education (including the examination of power, privilege, and exclusion as well as strategies to disrupt traditional approaches to and narrative of STEM teaching and learning) in the context of demonstrated improvement of K-12 education and/or teacher education;
  • Demonstrated advocacy for and/or work with communities historically underserved and marginalized by educational policies and practices;
  • Demonstrated experience with supporting educators to meet the educational needs of linguistically and culturally diverse adolescents; and
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse students, staff, and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with grades 6-10;
  • Record of scholarly publication in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Expertise with grant writing and management related to STEM teacher preparation or STEM teacher professional learning;
  • National Board Certification;
  • Familiarity with California curriculum standards and policies;
  • Experience working with multilingual/multicultural communities and evidence of a commitment to honoring plurilingualism and promoting language equity;
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching in hybrid and online delivery formats, including use of rich media and interactive strategies; and
  • Demonstrated knowledge in named languages other than English (plurilingualism)
