Ishrat Ahmed
Biography
Ishrat Ahmed is a doctoral candidate pursuing a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at Teachers College at Columbia University. Her research focuses on understanding the impact of the landmark decision in the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court case on mathematics teacher education and preparation, especially for Black mathematics teachers. She is currently in her eighth year as a high school mathematics teacher at The James Baldwin School in New York City and her first year adjuncting at Barnard College, teaching an Educational Foundations course. She holds her M.A. in Mathematics Education from Teachers College and a B.A. in Mathematics and Psychology from Barnard College. She has also served as the Director of Mathematics Education and mathematics education instructor for the Teaching Experience for Undergraduates (TEU) in NYC for the past three years, working with undergraduate students majoring in mathematics and interested in teaching as a possible career pathway.
