Communication from the AMTE Board of Directors

The AMTE Board holds an all-day meeting on the day prior to the Annual Conference. This is a opportunity to reflect on the organization’s accomplishments over the last year and to strategically plan next steps. Guiding our work is the Long-Term Goals that were developed for 2020-24. We invite you to review the Long-Term Goal update for 2021-2022 that summarizes our work over the past year related to each goal, along with action items for the upcoming year.

The 2021 Annual Report is now posted on the AMTE website. We encourage you to review this document, which highlights activities and accomplishments across AMTE’s Divisions. I think you may be surprised at all of the great work that has taken place over the last year! Many divisions and committees also held meetings around the conference to welcome new members, thank those who are ending their service, and discuss plans for the next year. A member of the AMTE Leadership tries to meet with each committee during the conference, and it is always rewarding to meet in person all of the people who devote their time and talents to making AMTE a great organization!

The AMTE Board also transitions its membership at the time of the conference, and would like to recognize outgoing elected Board members Enrique Galindo (Member-at-large), Sarah Quebec Fuentes (Treasurer), and Mike Steele (Past-president). Also leaving the board are Vice Presidents Sarah Van Ingen Lauer (Advocacy, Equity, and Research) and Dusty Jones (Communication and Outreach). Thank you all for your service! Enrique is not going far, however, as we welcome him as the new President-elect. We also welcome incoming elected board members Allyson Hallman-Thrasher (Treasurer) and Kristin Lesseig (Member-at-Large), along with new VPs Crystal Kalinec-Craig (Advocacy, Equity, and Research) and Joel Amidon (Communication and Outreach). All of the Board members are listed on the Leadership page of the AMTE Website. Please reach out to them at any time if you have questions or comments about the work of the organization.

Since we are an all-volunteer organization, the success of AMTE depends upon its members. We invite everyone to consider what role they might take on within the organization. Members often begin their service to AMTE by serving as a proposal reviewer for the annual conference (watch for the call coming out soon!). There are also opportunities to serve on AMTE Committees. The volunteer form is always open, so please use it to communicate your interests related to serving AMTE. Note that committee assignments are made in the fall of each year, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t hear back right away. Additionally, we often receive more volunteers than we need in a given year, so if you were not selected once, please volunteer again! We do track who volunteers and try to find a place for everyone within a couple of years.

It was so great to see so many of you at the 2022 Conference. Reconnecting with colleagues and making new connections is always the best part of AMTE for me. Please feel free to reach out at any time with any questions and/or comments (executivedirector@amte.net).

Respectfully submitted,
