The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track position in secondary mathematics education starting August 2018. Candidates should be invested in the teaching and improvement of mathematics content courses for prospective middle and high school teachers. Candidates should have demonstrated research interests in PreK-12 mathematics education or mathematics teacher education. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in mathematics education by the time of the appointment; a master's degree or equivalent in mathematics or statistics and high school teaching experience are strongly preferred. The successful applicant will join a growing number of mathematics educators in the department. Collaboration with current mathematics education faculty in the department and in the College of Education is encouraged. The successful candidate will also work with the department’s M. Ed in mathematics program for practicing high school teachers.

 

James Madison University, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, is a comprehensive, coeducational state university with an approximate enrollment of 21,000 students. The mathematics education group at JMU includes active scholars in mathematics education as well as mathematicians interested in PreK-12 mathematics education. The department teaches mathematics majors with secondary education minors as well as PreK-8 prospective teachers in an interdisciplinary major. The department offers an M. Ed in mathematics for current secondary mathematics teachers. Teaching of mathematics methods courses may be arranged on request through exchanges with the JMU College of Education.
