Assistant Professor of Mathematics at San Diego State University

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at SDSU invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level in mathematics education. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education or a closely related field and should have a solid background in mathematics and mathematics education, strong potential for research, experience or interest in working with faculty, staff, and students in a mathematics learning and tutoring center, and plans for extramural funding. The area of research is construed broadly in undergraduate mathematics education with a focus on the first-year experience in mathematics and programs designed to support student success. 

The new hire will also serve as the Associate Director of the Mathematics and Statistics Learning Center (MSLC). The Associate Director will support the Director of the MSLC, with primary responsibility for non-STEM and entry level mathematics courses. The Associate Director will work closely with the Director to hire, train and supervise tutors, and promote the services of the center to the wider campus audience. The new hire is also expected to develop an active relationship with members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics as well as with faculty from the College of Sciences and College of Education in the Center for Research in Mathematics and Science Education (CRMSE, http://www.sci.sdsu.edu/CRMSE/).
