The Marin School, an independent college-preparatory high school in San Rafael, California, seeks a Math Teacher.
The Marin School currently serves approximately 90 students in grades 9-12. Class size at the school is small by design, typically 7-10 students, to allow teachers to fully understand their students and give teachers the ability to personalize their instruction with experiential learning, innovative lessons and non-traditional and effective learning opportunities.

The math teacher will design and teach Algebra 1A, a course with 8 students that meets from 11-12 noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Algebra 1A course is the first half of the Algebra 1 curriculum. The purpose is to develop higher order logic skills and to prepare for more advanced math classes. The course will begin by reviewing and strengthening basic math skills. During the year, we will cover a variety of topics including variables, expressions, solving equations, functions, absolute values, ratios and proportions, writing and graphing equations, graphing and solving equalities and inequalities, exponents, and polynomials. An emphasis will be placed upon finding success in all areas of life.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adapt the curriculum to the needs of neuro-diverse students with varying abilities, and be able to accommodate students with a variety of learning profiles.
- Maintain strong, professional relationships with colleagues in an environment where listening, critical thought, respectful debate, and compromise are welcomed and essential.
- Communicate timely and proactively with parents about student progress.
- Collaborate with other members of the faculty, administration, and staff on experiential, interdisciplinary, and community-based opportunities that add to the school community.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree preferred (in math, education, or special education)
- 3+ years of successful math instruction experience for students with learning differences. Independent school teaching experience preferred.
- Understands and enjoys working with students with diverse learning needs
- An engaging, strategies-based teaching style and is competent with assistive technology
- A willingness and ability to reflect on one’s own curriculum and teaching; a willingness to adapt both to meet the different needs of students.
- A desire to work in a diverse and inclusive school environment.
- A commitment to work collaboratively and innovatively with colleagues.
- An ability to communicate respectfully, proactively, and honestly both orally and in writing with parents, colleagues, and administrators regarding curriculum and students.
- A positive attitude, excellent written and oral skills, strong organizational skills and success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, flexibility, and collegiality.
