GeT Support, an NSF-funded 5-year project directed by Patricio Herbst and Amanda Milewski at the University of Michigan, seeks a project manager and research associate to participate in developing, implementing, and investigating the instructional improvement of the Geometry for Teachers course. The goal of the project is to support better alignment of course offerings with the knowledge needed for and demands of teaching of high school geometry. This project convenes a network of college instructors and high school geometry teachers to  access to a set of common instructional resources in the context of an online professional learning community that will use and draw information from an instrument that assesses mathematical knowledge for teaching geometry. The Research Associate will work closely with faculty and graduate research assistants at the University of Michigan, participating in all phases of the project including:

  • meeting regularly with project leads to report and plan about grant activities,
  • recruiting and managing participants, 
  • managing workflow of research and development activities, 
  • planning, convening, facilitating, monitoring participation, and documenting meetings or events,
  • reviewing budgets, handling participant incentive, scheduling payments,
  • preparing data and supporting data analysis, 
  • writing internal memos and technical reports,
  • disseminating project activities, materials, and research results through weblogs,  conference presentations, publications, and social media, and possibly,
  • examining the interactions among participants in order to document instructor learning.

The position is 12-month, full-time, beginning November 1, 2017.  Applicants must be able to successfully complete an I-9 to verify eligibility and authorization for employment in the United States.

The Research Associate will be expected to work at our Ann Arbor campus, and expected to travel, as necessary, to support the work of the project including supporting the facilitation of face-to-face conferences, data collection, and dissemination of information.

Previous experiences working in any of the following roles would be useful:

  • personal or administrative assistant,
  • project management,
  • or teaching in K-16 or alternative settings.
