The MTE editors are excited to announce our next MTE issue in October. In the upcoming October 2026 issue there is one more article from the Special Call: Supporting Teachers to Engage Traditionally Marginalized Learners. In Culturally Relevant Mathematics Pedagogy: Affirming and Building Critical, Student-Centered Teaching Practices, Craig Willey and Paula Magee share their research around what teacher moves in elementary classrooms supports culturally relevant pedagogy and how this can support teachers in developing culturally relevant mathematics practice. Shifting Teachers’ Beliefs about Conceptual and Procedural Instruction: The Order Does Matter! written by Weichen Zhao, Donna Ross, and Randy Phillipp is a piece on why the order does matter when teaching for conceptual understanding and provides a case other MTEs can use to support this. Bridging Measurement and Multiplication: Growing Elementary Prospective Teachers’ Understanding of Area Models is an article written by Megan Wickstrom and Sayonita Ghosh Hajra where they provide interventions MTEs can use to support prospective teachers' conceptions of the area model of multiplication. Finally, Evaluating the Effectiveness of Data Science Curriculum on Preservice Secondary Mathematics Teachers’ Learning is an article that shares a data science lesson to support prospective teachers, written by Heather Gallivan, Eric Weber, and Lydia Butters.
MTE is launching a new article type, Innovations to Implement, and the October editorial shares details about this new manuscript type including details on requirements for submission.
The term for the current editorial team ends in May of 2028. To that end, we are announcing the next search for the MTE editorial team that would begin in May 2027.
